Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
